What's in a bottle of wine

Water

Wine is around 80-90% water. This water usually comes from the grapes themselves, though occasionally, water is added to further dilute the wine

Alcohol

Ethanol in the wine helps create body and weight. When tasting wine, the ethanol evaporates which quickly carries aromas to your nose.

Acid

Acids help to create wine crystals. The average wine has a pH of 3.3-3.7

Sugar

At harvest, grapes typically contain 15-38% sugar. During fermentation, the sugar is converted into alcohol.

Phenolic Compounds

These are molecules which have a significant impact on wine quality. One of which, Anthocyanins, is what determines the colour of a red wine
